“…Beads need each
other, they like each other…they are highly social …” Patti

I never gave much thought about making dolls or embellishing them
with beads for that matter. And then I was blessed with the birth
of Nohra and everything changed. A favorite customer we all fondly
call ‘Auntie Joan’ bestowed upon us a fabulous new
book detailing the art of cloth doll making and inspiration for
embellishing them with beads. We all poured over it….Funky
staff and grandmothers alike. We oohed and aaahed, plotted collaborations,
and as I gazed down at my newborn daughter comfortably snoozing
in my arms it all came together: The magic of the bead. In that
split second I envisioned all the amazing things I’ll get
to show her and the incredible people that will be a part of her
life as she grows up within the place we all fondly call Funky’s.
Beading is a simple, solitary, intuitive process, but one that
is infinitely grander, sillier and more spontaneous when carried
out within a community….of friends or strangers. Whether
in a class or on a shopping outing with bead pals, we look forward
to seeing you!

EXCITING
MASTER'S WORKSHOPS AT RAM!
Just down the street from Funky's is the world renowned Racine
Art Museum and their top notch collection of
Craft in wood, glass, metal, ceramic and fibers. An amazing
jewel in the heart of our charming revitalized downtown. RAM offers
amazing art
classes for all ages ( I took my first art class
there in 1971 at age 4!) at their Wustum
campus, just one mile or so northwest of downtown.
They have developed an amazing series of Master's
Workshops featuring
some of the hottest artists in jewelry and metals. This is a
chance of a lifetime to
work along side of these nationally renowned teachers in
a really great facility! Click

with one of our fantastic instructors. Our downtown location,

find that so many of us seem to have similar appreciation for
gardening, beading,
cooking (or at least eating!)…I’m
pleased to share with you a ‘best kept secret…’ Cooking
classes with pal Chef Lizz! (She’s also the design master
behind our newsletter for the past 10 years!) She offers small
group cooking classes in her spectacularly designed kitchen.
I had the best afternoon with a group of friends and learned
a ton of practical tips from a real pro!

OPEN BEAD NIGHT!
Is always the first Tuesday of every month….Join us for
a fun night of beading, laughter and culinary delights as you
work independently on your latest bead project….or become
inspired to start a new one!

Let Funky Hannah’s help throw the party!
We’ll provide all the necessary supplies and instructions
to complete a fun beading project at our shop, for kids 7 and up!
The cost is $12.00 per guest,
with a minimum of 8 or $96.00, and a maximum of 12. Bring
in your choice of beverages and treats. Parties last 1-1/2 to 2
hours depending on group size and project.
